Why do we warm up? We prepare our bodies for activity, so that the body doesn’t get shocked by going into high intensity exercise straight away. We increase blood flow slowly, and stretch to get the muscles more supple. Warm ups are essential for a good training session, they prevent more injuries and allow people with all sorts of conditions to train as safely as possible.

Cool downs are often neglected in exercise but are just as important as warm ups with regards to preventing injury, as well as helping with potential DOMS the day after exercise. A simple walk and stretch to bring the body back to homeostasis, so that you can leave training as safely as possible helps avoid too much stiffness a day later.
